Christmas in Lecce/ Artistic nativity scene
Every year is different. Every year it offers new emotions thanks to the setting in which it is plunged. Almost dropped from the sky, a glimpse of the Salento countryside is perfectly integrated among the sacred architecture of one of the city's main squares, Piazza Duomo. This is the large artistic nativity scene, set in the space in front of Lecce cathedral, featuring dry stone walls, the typical “pagghiare” surrounded by Mediterranean scrub, cobblestones, wells and orchards. This year the cherry on top is the return of the large olive grove that had been missing for several editions. Nearby, the small and large paths leading to the scene of the Nativity, rich in details, from the activities of the farmers, to the shepherds with their animals, and again the craftsmen fixed in the gestures of ancient work. Ending up, of course, at the Holy Family, the central pivot of the 700-square-metre work, illuminated by 80 lighting points and enriched by the placing of the Child on Christmas Eve by Bishop Michele Seccia.
It is possible to visit the artistic nativity scene until 7th January. Free entrance.
