Romano Sambati/Pain of the leaves
Painting without painting, using organic matter to fix temporality, transience, the perpetual motion of nature towards its eternal cycles: atavistic, tacit and perceptible in the trees that are undressing in the "Pain of the leaves", title of Romano Sambati's solo show hosted in the spaces of the Carlo V Castle. The exhibition, conceived by Carlo Michele Schirinzi, curated by Roberto Lacarbonara, brings together 30 works by the artist divided into five sections, created between 2020 and 2022. Born in 1938, from Lequile, Sambati is one of the greatest Apulian exponents of painting and sculpture. His research has always undergone the proximity of natural elements, their vulnerability, and the declared love for Greek and Latin culture, which he nurtured through a constant and meticulous study of the great poets of the past such as Lucretius who inspired in the Eighties " De Rerum Natura ".
In addition to the last cycle of works, the exhibition embraces drawings and paintings from the dawn, from the time when Sambati included children's drawings: that of a tree with the last leaves was the beginning of his journey on extemporaneousness, the possibility of escaping from a conventional vision by returning to the essence.
Along the exhibition itinerary, produced by the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Lecce, Kunstschau and RTI Theutra Oasimed, there is also the screening of "Eclisse senza cielo" (2016), the film by Carlo Michele Schirinzi dedicated to the artist.
